Part of me wonders if this is similar to the Kimbrel situation, where there was going to be an opt-out date so they figured “why not bring him up to see what we can get out of him"He’s cheap enough to DFA if he’s a total bust, and if he’s hitting well and you don’t want to waste him on a bunch you might be able to flip him for something useful. Even if he’s in the low 90s with his wRC+ for a few weeks, it’ll be an improvement over what they’ve been putting up the past few weeks, so it can’t hurt to try.
