The Daily Hilario: Thursday

Minutes/experience.Actually living it and learning by their mistakes.Re our lot, think Enzo has imprinted formations and placements but it all a bit, reset to minds eye picture of a tactical board which is why it looks so static. If our chess pieces aren’t in place, recycle Letting the opponents also “set up” If they are in place, it often looks really static because they don’t really move much. An accusation often levelled at Maresca is that good players “land” hit the ground running and then their form drops off. Maybe too tactical Started well with the Poch team and then dropped off. JP, Palmer etcEg Guiu Delap have been told to press and pin, same as Jackson but their runs and instincts are prevalent from years of playing the position.Another example would be the Shirley goal/Fab assist I post every couple of years. Look at Andre’s run and that type of thing doesn’t seem either trained or encouraged under the current regime. We seem to always revert to a 2D standing start, the picture of the tactical board and then move the magnets. “You run here, he drops there, he underlaps, they cover” etc. etc. It’s why it appears a bit slow and ponderous sometimes and the ultimate confidence players (Palmer, Estêvão, Lavia, Reece ((not textbook)) shine whereas the lower confidence players (Gittens, Hato, Santos, early Sanchez?) try to please and follow instruction. It would be good to see a similar emphasis on runs and movement as there is for formations and setups. The hope is it’s an evolution for both the players and the manager and these are the foundations. We’re here, we want to end up here but our rest defence is this, so we need to be prepared for that. Snapshots. Hopefully we can fill in the blanks and freedom/fluidity, especially up front, besides the isolated wingers.
