In hindsight, the mistake Cohen made was to try to build a quick winner. It led to a bloated payroll and high expectations. He'd have been better selling off everything for parts in '21 -- Nimmo, Conforto, McNeil, even deGrom, not trading for Lindor. The plan would've been a few rebuilding years and making massive investments in the farm system with the goal of competing by '24 or '25. Had he been clear that was his plan, the fans would've gotten behind it.
