GIFWhat can Barcelona learn from Champions League winners PSG? - Barca Blaugranes
PSG, on the other hand, benefited greatly from a Ligue 1 campaign that they were running away with, making it possible to prioritize the Champions League throughout all of 2025. Don't forget how we were also fighting against Tebas et al too. Whilst P$G were handed a week's rest before their second leg against Villa; a game which they lost and could genuinely have gotten knocked out after if it weren't for Pacho and Donnarumma. "LFP accept PSG's request to move the Nantes match to better prepare for Aston Villa. Nantes initially opposed the request calling into question the sporting integrity of the league. However, the league in turn moved their match against Rennes to 'soften the blow'" 👆🏻 This kind of stuff you'll never see in our case. Instead, we'll have situations like the rescheduled Osasuna game which brought issues before and after it happened. Barcelona’s efficacy in this area faded as the season went along, leaving their backline more exposed, resulting in more goals being scored on them. Domino effect of lack of rotation earlier on and injuries IMO. If our defence was at its sharpest then our execution of the high line and the offside traps has far fewer errors than if we are fatigued. If we are 100% then we would be able to execute it against any team regardless of if they have quick players or third-man runners etc. That being said, when Flick moved to a mid-block against Atléti, it absolutely suited that game state far more than if we would've kept the high line. To learn from this, hopefully Flick rotates better and also tries out more midfield and defence combos so that all players have maximum chemistry with one another. Our forward line is the place where we lack the most total depth so he needs to manage Lewy and Ferran especially the best he can and play each one against the most suited opponent etc. Flick did say that he didn't have proper time to adjust defensively because of our hectic schedule so he won't have an excuse to make the necessary tweaks in preseason and in the first two months of next season. Once again, the core approach was a vital part of our success this season. The high-pressure starts with the position of the high line, and the counter-pressing has been such an excellent thing that has caught many teams out of position and has subsequently led to a lot of our goals. We have scored 102 goals domestically compared to P$G's 92 despite the league they're in. 174 all competitions to 152 for them. We have led Europe in so many metrics both offensively and defensively too. It's clear that there are definitely crucial improvements to be made. Necessary street smarts, mid-game line adjustments, proper rotations etc. Hopefully we see changes in these areas next season. The future is so bright.
