A lot of time this kind of thing comes from an unauthorized lower-level staffer who's trying to build relationships with reporters to advance their career. The kind of person that doesn't actually have any knowledge of what the actual clubhouse dynamics are. I've seen this exact thing in another media-intense industry that I was part of.It seems likelier that if Sterns were looking to trade Lindor that the last thing he'd want to do is to devalue him by tarnishing his reputation as a leader - that would be counterproductive to building a robust market. There'd be plenty of time condition the fanbase with leaks in the wake of a deal rather then prior to one.
